Getting Started with Audiobooks

Install - Adjust iTunes - Search and Download - Transfer

Install and Update Software

1. To download audiobooks from OverDrive, download and install the OverDrive Media Console appropriate for your computer.
2. Install the required software for your device. (Example: iPods require iTunes)
3. PC users should update their copy of Windows Media Player to have access to the most current version of DRM.

Adjust iTunes (for Apple devices)

1. Connect your Apple device to your computer.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Locate and click on the device in the left navigation panel.  The summary screen is displayed.
4. Place a check mark next to "Manually manage music..."
5. Click Apply.  The iTunes Summary screen refreshes and your changes are saved.

Search and Download

1. Visit our Digital Collection page.
2. Find a title to download using the search bar or a browsing category in the left menu.
3. Audiobook titles are in mp3 or WMA format.
4. If a title is available for immediate download, the text "Add to my digital bookbag" will be displayed.  Click to download.  If a title is checked out, "Place a hold" will be displayed.  Click to place a hold.  OverDrive will ask for an email address to notify you when your title is ready to download.  Once the notification is sent, you have 2 deays to download it before it becomes available to the next patron.
5. When downloading, you will be asked for your library card number.  When the download is completed, save it, and then open it.  If you do not save it first, the title may not be available to you next time you login to your computer.  OverDrive Media Console will open automatically when the downloaded audiobook is opened.

Transfer

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. On the OverDrive Media Console toolbar, click transfer.
3. Select your device to transfer and follow the prompts on the screen.
4. When the transfer is complete, safely disconnect the device and enjoy.
