Wall & Case Exhibit:
Student Artwork from Woodland Hill Montessori School
The students at Woodland Hill Montessori school have been busy this school year honing their skills as well as learning about a variety of artists and genre’s of art.
Our exhibit consists of some wonderfully delicious “Pop” art cakes fashioned after the artist Wayne Thiebaud. The kids had a ball with this activity.
Our Middle School students also got involved in the “Pop” art scene by delving into the life and art of Roy Lichtenstein. They had been studying Onomatopoeia’s in their language art class! Wham, Bam, Boom. What a blast it was.
Another favorite was the “Gods of Ancient Egypt” activity. Heavy duty metallic foil was used in this metal tooling technique along with metallic paint. We focused on the history of Ancient Egypt and the highly patterned and textured attire of this amazing period in time.
The Aboriginal art work was a study in surface design. It was a crossover lesson which tied into their classroom studies. It was a very successful painting lesson.
Dancing with Degas was another favorite with the students. It was not only an introduction to Degas but a lesson in figure drawing. We used coffee filters for the dancer’s tutu’s to give them some dimension.
We hope you will enjoy the creative talent of the students from Woodland Hill Montessori School.
Sincerely,
Janis Rink (Art instructor, Woodland Hill Montessori School)
