Teen Poetry Contest

APRIL IS NATIONAL POETRY MONTH!

Haiku can be fun

even though it makes you count

syllables per line

2009 Teen Poetry Contest Winners

We received more than 50 haiku from students in grades 6-12 this year.  Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to everyone who submitted a haiku to the contest.  All of this year's entries are now on display in The Jungle so you can stop by and read them all...  Enjoy!

The first place winner is Paul Celello, with his haiku “Homogenous Group.”

Homogenous group --

All fatuous fatalists.

Is this the future?

The second place winner was Emy Blohm, with her haiku titled “Rainbow's End.”

Where the young hearts soar

And dreams descend; wait for me

At the rainbow's end.

The third place is Alex Gallagher, with his haiku titled "Sun of Night."

The sun of the night,

So rarely we notice,

It's beautiful shine.

2009 Contest Rules:

All entries MUST be typed up and printed out on plain white paper (Chrissie will automatically do this for all of the e-mailed entries).

Place your name, phone number, grade and age on a separate scrap of paper attached to the haiku you are submitting.  (We need to keep your identity secret during the voting process.)

Entrants must be in grades 6-12 and

live somewhere near East Greenbush!

(At least in the Capital District.)

You may submit more than one haiku per sheet or e-mail.

No obscenity, porn, or anything that would make your grandma blush!

Entries may be submitted

beginning Monday, 2/2/09

and will be accepted until

9pm on Wednesday, April 8th!

Do not submit anything you don’t want displayed in the Teen Area.

Leave your haiku in the maroon tray labeled “HAIKU CONTEST” in the Teen Area or e-mail them to Chrissie with "Poetry Contest" as the subject.

Entries will be voted on at the

April TAG meeting,

and the winner will be

announced during the

Teen Poetry Slam

@ 7pm on Thursday, April 9th.
