Volunteer Guidelines

VolunTeens are expected to work the hours they sign up for!

Please use the list of VolunTeen phone numbers to find your replacement.
Once a replacement has been found, call the library, 477-7476 x 105 or menu 6, and tell us who will be working for you.

In the event a VolunTeen is sick, or has a previously unknown family obligation, that VolunTeen is responsible for finding a replacement for his/her shift.

Please use the list of VolunTeen phone numbers to find your replacement.
Once a replacement has been found, call the library, 477-7476 x 105 or menu 6, and tell the Youth Services Librarian on duty who will be working instead.

In the case of extreme sickness, or an emergency, a VolunTeen is not required to find a replacement.

But he/she is expected to call the library as soon as possible so the librarian can find a replacement for him/her.

A VolunTeen who misses two shifts, without calling ahead or finding a replacement, will not be allowed to continue with the program.

You may not work more than two shifts in a row!

Only a librarian can schedule a VolunTeen’s shift.

Please do not schedule yourself!
You must check in with a librarian when you report for your shift.

Lateness is not acceptable.

Be here on time, or call ahead if an emergency occurs (let us know how late you’ll be).

Do not double dip!

VolunTeens can participate in the TEEN Summer Reading Program (Please!) but not the kids' program.  Do NOT sign yourself up for the kids' program or take kids’ prizes!

It's okay to bring a visiting friend to your shift, but you cannot babysit siblings (or anyone else) while you are volunteering.

Please dress appropriately for a library!

Shorts are okay, but please no tank tops, or tankinis, swimsuits, bare bellies, or anything that might embarrass me.  (Just wear a t-shirt, ok?!?)
Keep in mind the library is FREEZING with the air conditioning on, so you may want to bring a sweater or extra layer of clothing just in case. Trust me. I know.

You are responsible for the SRP and helping out librarians when we ask you to.

You are not responsible for helping people find books, or answering reference questions. If someone other than a librarian asks you a question, please refer that person to the librarian on duty (unless of course the question is “Where is the bathroom?” in which case, please answer them). That’s why we’re here!

Teens who have volunteered for at least one summer in the past can apply to be an SUV—Super Über VolunTeen.

SUVs will have more responsibility, but nothing unreasonable!

You will receive your certificates and prizes (for working over 10 hours this summer) at our VolunTeen Appreciation Party on Friday, August 22nd at 2pm.

Make sure you sign up if you want to come.
If you can’t come to the party, you can still pick up your certificate at the library.

This summer, we are hoping to use the free version of
